The purpose of this research is to estimate current labor demand
within the Advance Manufacturing sector in the St. Louis region.
This research is being done in conjunction with the research efforts
devoted to the labor demand information provided on the St. Louis
region in the Workforce Information System (WIS). The WIS is
a web-base system that has been developed and is maintained by
the Metropolitan Information and Data Analysis Services (MIDAS)
section of the Public Policy Research Center (PPRC) of the University
of Missouri-St. Louis. The WIS can be found at http://pprc.umsl.edu/wis/ and provides region-wide
estimates of labor demand on a bi-annual basis. This WIS also
provides information on the region's economy, population and other
local systems such as school districts, transportation and workforce
training and employment entities.
The research design for the Advanced
Manufacturing Sector Labor Demand Analysis was finalized in the
fall of 2002 in consultation with ETC Institute, a survey research
consultant, and interviews of key informants. ETC Institute is
administering the survey as of October 14, 2002 and the results
will be present in December of 2002. The research goals of this
study are as follows:
1.
Prepare estimated of labor demand within the Advanced
Manufacturing Sector using a multi-methods research design.
2.
Provide information on the financial health of the Advanced
Manufacturing companies and their industry and sales and employment
outlooks for the Advanced Manufacturing sector.
