Public Finance Initiative: Missouri tobacco Tax

Missouri’s imposes a tax on cigarettes at the rate of 17¢ per pack of 20 and on other tobacco products at the rate of 10% of manufacture’s invoice price. Fiscal year 2005 Missouri tobacco tax collections make up 0.73% of the state’s total tax collections and the burden (percent of personal income paid in taxes) on Missouri taxpayers ranks 44th of 50 states.
