2008 YOUNG SCHOLAR BEST PAPER

$500 AWARD

The St. Louis Metropolitan Research Exchange (STLMRE), in conjunction with the Sam Fox School of Washington University and East-West Gateway Council of Governments, will sponsor an annual award for the best paper on a case or issue in the St. Louis metropolitan area. This award commemorates Jacqueline Tatom, an architect, urban designer, and teacher whose work explored the metropolitan landscapes of St. Louis and its environs.

Eligibility: Any person (or persons, if co-authored) enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program at the time of the nomination are eligible. The paper must offer new insights about St. Louis and/or its surrounding region in Missouri and Illinois. The competition is interdisciplinary, and papers from different perspectives are encouraged Papers must be less than 50 pages, double-spaced. Papers must be nominated in order to be considered, and anyone is eligible to nominate a paper.

Criteria: The papers will be judged on scholarly quality, original research, creativity and excellence in writing. Papers should relate the St. Louis experience to broader issues, scholarly literatures and theoretical debates.

Award: The winner will receive $500 and a plaque, at a lunch in his or her honor.

Submissions due by June 15, 2008. The award will be given at luncheon in early September.
