Community history research & design: why history

Community History Research and Design Services (CHRDS) is a service offered through PPRC to help communities rediscover their past to shape the future. Why are we using history as a vehicle for strengthening communities?

  • History deepens residents’ attachment to place and promotes their investment in its future.
  • A well-documented interpretation of history draws tourists to a community and thus boots the local economy.
  • Historical perspectives promote a sense of unity and purpose, which allows a community to make informed policy decisions.
  • Historical awareness is an analytical tool for undestanding the impact of today's choices on the future of the community.
